Horjal (Pericallis murrayi)

Erect perennial herb, up to 50-60 cm. Leaves suborbicular, margins dentate, darker on top than underneath, which is characteristic of this genus. Inflorescences in dense corymbs of 30-45 heads, which are around 7 mm across. The centre is yellow and the ligules are white, yellowish-white, pink or purple, although white dominates. This native of El Hierro is typical of evergreen, fayal-brezal firetree and heath, and pine forests, although it can also be found down to 50 m. It is widely distributed over the island, particularly on the northern slope and within forest areas, as it requires a certain degree of moisture.
